If there is one thing that’s super easy to take for granted, it’s our family. They’re always going to be there, even when we aren’t kind or considerate and they love us unconditionally, and are usually a part of our everyday life. It’s easy to kind of overlook them, because they’re always around.
Today we’re digging into why it’s so important to see family for what it is: one of the most important things in our lives. No matter your age, your interests or your goals, coming together with family will serve you in your pursuit of all things!

[1:48] Taking Family for Granted
An easy way to imagine how important something really is to you is to try and imagine your life without it.
For example, you probably don’t think much about the fact that you have your vision. You’re able to get out of bed in the morning and see where you are going and you don’t think twice about it. But spend the day blindfolded, and you’ll quickly start to appreciate how precious the gift of sight is.
What about family? How often do you go through your days consciously thankful for your family? Do you just kind of go through your days not thinking much of them or, even worse, because you’re so comfortable with them, maybe they get the worst of you by treating them poorly when you’re having a bad day.
[3:14] Working as a Team
But what if you thought about it differently?
Your family was chosen to be together. It’s not a coincidence that each of you were brought together in this life, that God created your family exactly as it is. Your family is one of the greatest treasures you’ll ever receive. Even the tough things you go through as a family are gifts because you learn and you grow and eventually you become who you are because of the experiences you have.
So, what if you started to view your family differently, what if you viewed them as your teammates, as the people who you’re going to do life with, now and as you grow older. The ones who will always have your back and you’ll have theirs, the ones who you take care of when they need you or they’re having a rough day, the ones who are there to lift you up when you’re having a tough day, the ones who will help you and love you and the ones that will love you no matter what. Remember, you are always stronger in life as a team.
[5:58] The Greatest Gift
My challenge to you is to make a list of all the things your parents do to help you, the things that you might take for granted. For example, make your meals or grocery shop, drive you places or pay for your clothes, sign you up for activities or cheering you on, etc. And then think about life if you had to do all of that on your own. Think about the things that are even harder to see but even more important, like hugging you when you’re sad, or sticking up for you when someone picks on you, or kissing you goodnight or telling you that they believe in you.
All of that is a part of the treasure, as are you. You’re part of that same treasure, so care for them, show up for them and remind them that you’re a team because your family might be the greatest gift you ever receive.
