Stand Still and See: The Unseen Power of Patience
Over the past week, I’ve experienced an astounding, life-altering shift that prompted me to write this article. I’ve coined the term “stand still and see” to describe the often-overlooked power of waiting—especially in our action-obsessed culture. The potential for abundance and prosperity, both personally and professionally, can be tremendous when we learn to be patient during uncertain times.
A year ago, a desperate situation forced me into a period of inactivity. This time, however, I was invited, not thrust, into stillness during moments of prayer. The question was straightforward: could I be patient and wait for God to reveal the next steps? This invitation came as I wrote my book and steered my podcast in a new direction focused on taking significant life leaps.
Lessons from Stillness: A Personal Journey
Reflecting on this journey, I’ve noticed that the most successful breakthroughs often happen during times of surrender and stillness. A year ago, after a life-threatening event, my life halted out of necessity. But now, embracing the concept of strategic waiting, although counterintuitive, has become a powerful tool for aligning with my true calling.
Many people express a desire for their work to have meaning and align with their true identity. However, the misconception of productivity often leads us to fill our lives with constant activity. Naturally inclined to act, I’ve learned that waiting does not mean doing nothing—it means creating space for greatness.
From Mexico to Insightful Revelations
During my trip to Mexico, I dedicated time to inspiration without distractions. Unlike previous experiences filled with visionary ideas, this time was different. I sought divine guidance, questioning whether I was genuinely aligned with a higher purpose. Insights from Priscilla Schreier’s “Discerning the Voice of God” encouraged me to stop actively seeking His will. Instead, I focused on knowing His character, allowing the next steps to reveal themselves.
Breaking the Cycle of Constant Motion
In our culture, entrepreneurs and CEOs fill space with relentless action at the expense of meaningful reflection. However, the spiritual and financial costs can be significant. Embracing stillness allows actions to align with true purpose.
Overcoming the discomfort of stillness requires practice. We’re conditioned to feel uneasy when not in motion, always seeking to fill silence. Yet, Exodus 14:14 reminds me, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Practicing Purposeful Stillness
This period of waiting, although agonizing at times, allowed me to reassess and conserve energy for the right opportunities. It required a conscious effort to avoid premature actions driven by discomfort. I reframed waiting as preparation, turning inactivity into active readiness for future revelations.
Emerging Opportunities: The Reveal
After returning from Mexico, a significant opportunity presented itself—one beyond anything I could have imagined. Had I not embraced the discomfort of waiting, I would have missed or mishandled this opportunity. The potential from this opportunity is exponentially greater than anything I could have pursued during the preceding months.
If you find yourself in a season of waiting, I encourage you to embrace it. Recognize the signs and trust that something significant may be preparing itself for you. True potential often lies not in continual motion but in the deliberate stillness that allows for divine timing and guidance.
Have you sat in stillness recently? If this resonates with you or someone you know, I invite you to share it. Stay tuned for exciting changes and announcements inspired by these revelations.
