TODAY’S EPISODE IS ALL ABOUT BECOMING AN ENTREPRENEUR!
This episode is all about having a heart for entrepreneurship and why it can be such a powerful gift for kids of all ages. Entrepreneurship is one of the most underleveraged and underutilized opportunities for people of your generation. Everyone’s mind is one-track to college (and there’s nothing wrong with college) but entrepreneurship allows you to tap into a level of freedom and possibility that just isn’t available on most traditional paths.
So today, we’re going to spark that interest. I’m going to help you build and create that hunger for exploring what you’re good at. I’m going to talk about different ways that you can earn, different ways you can step into your strengths and how you can enhance and grow in your weaknesses.
Let’s raise them up right!
IN THIS EPISODE, WE COVER:
[2:19] The Power of Entrepreneurship
It’s easy to not really think too much of the fact that your parents, or at least one of your parents, runs a business of their own. What’s the big deal, right? That seems pretty normal to you, but the truth is that it’s not the norm. It’s not the traditional path that most people take and it’s not the easier path. But, even though it is harder, entrepreneurship can be such a special gift to a family. It opens the door to a new level of possibility that really cannot be accessed in a traditional job or in staying home.
Why am I sharing this with you? My hope is to help you see the power of entrepreneurship. Even if you don’t choose to start a small business someday or to work in your parents’ business someday, having an entrepreneurial spirit will always put you ahead in life. It’ll make your life better and get you closer to those amazing big dreams you have and it’s going to help you become the person that you actually need to be to carry out that mission that’s on your heart.
[4:45] Getting into the Entrepreneurial Mindset
Right now, you’re probably hearing a lot about college and there is certainly nothing wrong with college. College can be a great path for you if you know what you want to do and college will teach you how to get there. But one thing I want to emphasize is it’s not the only path. It isn’t the only path that can breed success in your life. I think that the biggest mistake our society makes about college is putting pressure on kids to think that their value and their potential is only in whether or not they get that college degree. So, today is all about getting you in the mindset of an entrepreneur. The fact that your parents chose to become entrepreneurs means that they think a little bit outside the box, they solve problems differently, they’re willing to work for whatever it is they want. It’s taking those principles from the leadership conversations that we’ve had and combining it with the growth that can come from creating and branching out on your own as an entrepreneur and bringing those together in harmony. That helps you tap into and become the leader you need to be to start to live out the life that you want to live.
[6:25] Dream Big and Go After It
When you approach things, do you see the possibility or do you have a strong mindset when things get hard? Do you think about all the ways you’re going to fail or do you think about how you can get through it?
Having that strong mindset, that abundance mindset that anything is possible, and a willingness to take smart risks that allow you to get ahead in a way that aligns with your values, that’s what entrepreneurship is all about.
So, whether you’re really young or you’re getting closer to high school or college, allow your mind to explore what it could look like to come up with these new ideas to put yourself out there and to do what you’re great at. Learning what you like and what you don’t like, developing entrepreneurial skills and learning how to work with people, it’s all part of being willing to try and being willing to fail. Failure isn’t final. I failed my way to where I am today and I am not afraid of it. It’s where I learned. It’s where I get my best lessons and it’s where I grew. The people you admire most, they are willing to try and learn. They are willing to tap into the possibility, to fail, to dream bigger. Entrepreneurship is a path that allows for freedom and a level of independence and creativity, but it’s not easy. So, go after it with a heart for entrepreneurship and be hungry for possibility. Put aside all the reasons why you think you can’t do it and instead start thinking about possibilities. Dream of how you can make it work and how you can learn as you go. Because all the greatest leaders and success stories that you admire, that’s what they did. They kept getting up and they kept going.
