I feel so infinitely blessed to do the work that I do. 

Walking alongside passionate, hardworking visionaries who are willing to fight for their dream and their mission, is such a privilege and I’m so grateful. But after 10 years of working alongside them, I have seen a common thread. These people, myself included, desperately want to raise their kids up to thrive beyond society’s standards and help to craft these kids into creative and critical thinking independent leaders, who have the courage to go after their purpose. 

That fire is amazing, but every single one of these parents hits some kind of wall in the process, because a desire and a plan to obtain it are two very different things. The wall that they hit is one of “how.” They want it so bad, and they’re ready to do the hard work, but they’re not sure how or where to start.

[11:00] It Starts with You 

Not only do we not know exactly what to do or how to raise our kids up in leadership and possibility, but could we be actively making it harder for them without even knowing it? 

Here’s the good news and the bad news – it starts with you. It’s good news because it means  you’re in control; it’s bad news because you can’t bypass this part. 

Even though you are eager to raise independent leaders, the quickest way there is in connection with a leader (you) who is modeling it and shepherding them through it. Now, you might think you’re strapped for time and you are freaking exhausted and you don’t know how. And I get that, because I have felt it too, but then I realized that the answer was more simple than I was making it up to be: bring them along for the ride. Let them see your growth, your commitment to learning, your mistakes, your hard work. 

It starts with you around the dinner table, without distractions, asking the right questions and actually listening and hearing your children. Being a truly present leader figure in their lives and starting to bring the same level of intention into your home that you bring into your business. 

That is the key. 

[13:22] Unhurried Leadership 

What is the cost of not doing this? 

Do I really want my kids just mindlessly following society’s plan for their lives, instead of standing up for their values and breaking the rules and becoming who they’re called to be? Do I really want to just be their chauffeur and event coordinator and not have that deep connection that’s both going to bring so much joy to my life, but also so much impact to theirs? 

There’s so many things that are on the line. When I think about all of it and I think about what I want this life to mean and the legacy I want to leave – it’s with them. 

I know that all of this can be overwhelming and you’re not sure where to start, which is why I’ve developed a tool specifically for entrepreneurs to help you come up with a plan.
