As I find myself navigating the path of entrepreneurship, I’ve often pondered whether I should chase conventional success or embrace a more profound, meaningful calling. During a recent visionary CEO mastermind retreat, this was a prominent discussion topic. It’s not just about building a business that survives or even thrives by society’s standards. For me, it’s about aligning my business with a higher purpose—God’s calling for my life. For those ready to explore this transformative approach alongside me, here are five questions that have been instrumental in my journey.

1. Recognizing Consistent Themes in My Life
I reflect on the consistent messages or themes God has placed on my heart over the years. These themes, like family, leadership, and service, are not mere coincidences but divine nudges. By journaling and praying about these recurring themes, I aim to reveal their alignment with both my business and personal life.
2. Designing a Purpose-Driven Life
I often imagine what a life that truly reflects my God-given purpose would look like. I think about my relationships, the impact I want to have, and how my business can support these ambitions. I’ve learned that a misaligned business can sap my spiritual energy and harm personal relationships. Therefore, using God’s guidance is crucial to ensure my business serves as a vehicle for my impact, not just a destination for my ambition.
3. Creating a God-Aligned Business Vision
I envision sitting in a boardroom meeting with God as my business partner. What would my business look like in five to ten years if it were aligned with His purpose? Letting go of fears and limitations, I’ve invited divine guidance into my planning process. I believe surrendering my business ambitions to God doesn’t diminish them; instead, it allows them to flourish beyond human capability.
4. Identifying My Joy and Aligning with My Calling
I ask myself what aspects of my work bring me the greatest joy and feel divinely inspired, and conversely, what aspects conflict with my calling? I understand that God places desires in my heart for a reason, urging me to recognize my sweet spot. By allocating more time for tasks that light me up and finding ways to eliminate or delegate those that don’t align with my divine purpose, I’m living more in alignment with His will.
5. The Courage to Fully Surrender
If I fully surrendered my business to God, what changes would I make? I have realized that surrender is an act of faith and strength, not weakness. It’s about releasing control and trusting that God’s plans for my business are often more abundant than I can imagine. I’ve made a list of what I should stop and start doing, and I bring these changes forth in prayer, trusting His guidance.
Ultimately, aligning my business with God’s calling is about a paradigm shift—viewing my business as a divine vessel rather than an end. This shift eases the burdens of entrepreneurship by inviting God’s blessings and guidance into my journey. Trust, surrender, and align with His purpose to ensure my business serves a higher calling. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds me to trust in the Lord and not solely on my understanding, allowing Him to make my paths straight.
