KIDS OF ALL AGES GATHER AROUND FOR ANOTHER SUMMER SERIES EPISODE!
Today we’re talking about the equation that you need to know to be an entrepreneur. And the good news is – you already have a lot of what you need to explore entrepreneurship and starting your own business like your parents have!
Let’s raise them up right!
IN THIS EPISODE, WE COVER:
[1:48] Your Innate Skills and Giftings + What You’re Passionate About + Solving a Problem/Serving a Need
Okay, you want to know the secret equation?
The first part of the equation are your innate skills and giftings, meaning what comes naturally to you. How did God make you? What are the pieces of you that are special or make you unique?
The second part is what lights you up, what are you passionate about? And now when you combine those things and it can help someone in some way or serve a need that people have, that is the third part of the equation.
This is a business. When you have this equation, you can take the things that you’re passionate about and the things you’re naturally really good at, and figure out ways to turn those into a business that serves others. Business is not just about making money (although this is an important part), it’s about knowing in your heart that it is the right thing for you and allows you to be in your zone of genius.
[4:41] What are Your Gifts and What Are You Passionate About
So, my future entrepreneurs, what are your special skills and gifts?
First off, what do I mean by gifts? These are things you’re good at and they’re usually things you’re pretty interested in, because oftentimes when we’re good at something, we become naturally interested in it. Sometimes, it’s hard to see our own gifts because they seem really simple or easy to us.
So, here are a few ways we can start to notice these things for ourselves:
- First, I want you to designate a special notebook or a journal to start brainstorming some of the ideas I’m going to talk to you about here.
- Next, get in the habit of writing a couple of different things you notice throughout your days. This doesn’t have to be long paragraphs or pages, it can be a quick thought or it can be something deeper or something that you journal on a little bit more.
- Start a habit of identifying what you’re grateful for. Often, the things that we are appreciative of or we’re happy about, provide the little clues into our skills, our gifts and our interest.
- Have your parents carve out some time for an afternoon with absolutely nothing to do. What activities would you choose to do? Think about what you’re drawn to and try your best not to let it be something you consume like tv or screen time.
Write all of this down and you will start to notice some things. You will start to notice some of your top passions and some of those things that you just love. And now you’re going to have a bank of these things that come naturally to you, the things you’re really good at – your gifts and the things that you enjoy and want to do more of.
[9:30] Provide Value to Somebody Else
The next part of the equation is starting to think about how you can combine what you’re good at with what you love, and to do that in a way that provides some value to somebody else.
When you’re in business, it involves other people. There’s no such thing as being in your own world doing what you’re great at, but not putting it out into the world because you’re not going to make any money. No one’s going to buy what you have to offer. So, it’s not easy and it’s going to take some time to figure out. But give this a try. Get out that journal or that notebook and go through some of these exercises. There’s an entrepreneur inside of you that’s waiting to get out but you have to explore this equation to figure it out.
